Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse has ordered flags at the City Government Center to be lowered in honor of two women who recently passed away; City Councilwoman Eugenia Smith and former Councilwoman Judith Hill.
Smith, 53, died unexpectedly Friday at Harrisburg Hospital. She was elected to council in 2009. She was the chair of the Public Safety committee and worked closely with the Harrisburg fire and police departments. She spent more than 25 years in public service.
"That's what she'll be remembered for is just her caring heart that just kept giving and giving and giving," said State Rep. Patty Kim.
Hill passed away on April 8 at the age of 85. She was a former member of the city's school board and was the first African-American councilwoman in city history.
