Body found in Susquehanna River near Fort Hunter

DAUPHIN, Pa. (WHTM) -

State police and the Dauphin County Coroner's Office are investigating the discovery of a body in the Susquehanna River north of Harrisburg.

Trooper Robert Hicks said the body was in the water, and was entangled in brush along one of the islands in Middle Paxton Township, about a quarter-mile north of Fort Hunter.

He said a fisherman made the discovery around noon Monday and called 911.

Hicks said the partially decomposed body appears to be that of a white male, perhaps in his mid-30's, and was not clothed.

No identification was found nearby.

Police said the body appears to have been in the water for at least a couple of weeks.

An autopsy will be performed to possibly determine the cause of death, but police said at first glance it does not appear the person met with foul play.

Hicks said investigators don't yet know whether the body floated downstream, but will look into any missing persons reports from upriver.

He said there are no reports of missing fishermen in the area.
