Scientists in the Midstate are taking a close look at a study that ties hydraulic fracking to earthquakes in Ohio.
The study linked a series of five small earthquakes in the Youngstown area to natural gas drilling.
Dr. Charles Sharnberger has studied and taught seismology at Millersville University. He says even dam construction has also been known to ignite seismic activity, but only in places already prone to it.
The DEP says there's not enough information in the Ohio study to link hydraulic fracking to earthquakes in Pa., but said it is monitoring the situation.
