ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. -- A pregnant Southside woman was arrested last week for the chemical endangerment of a child after she failed a court-ordered drug screening, testing positive for meth and amphetamine, Sheriff Todd Entrekin said Tuesday.

Amanda Leigh Johnson, 27, is charged with one felony count of chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed. According to Entrekin, the mom-to-be was arrested April 8 shortly after failing a drug test required by the Etowah County Court Referral Office.

Johnson, who is nearly four months pregnant, is being held in the county detention center on a $50,000 bond.

Authorities didn't say why she was in the court referral program.
