Cold Winter Leads To Deer Decimating Home Shrubbery

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - We are still paying for this year's nasty winter. Deer are eating shrubs and flower beds down to nothing, in many parts of our area.

Now that the weather has warmed up and greenery is coming back to life, biologists say deer are making up for what they couldn't eat during the winter.

The cold spell this year killed a lot of greenery that usually survives the winter. That, coupled with last year's acorn shortage and biologists say the deer are eating everything in sight.

But no need to worry, the end of the deer destruction is near.

"Things are greening up very quickly and alternate food sources, that is foods other than shrubbery and landscape shrubbery are becoming more available so that should disperse the deer" said Jim Bowman a Wildlife Biologist with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

There are some deer deterrents you can buy for your yard; chemicals, as well as netting and fences, all do the trick.
