MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

An incident where a truck trailer was stolen from a Mechanicsburg-area distribution facility while a security guard was held hostage at gunpoint has been linked to a Mexican drug cartel, Upper Allen Township said Friday.

Police also announced the arrests of two Florida men who allegedly had a role in the March 3, 2013 robbery in the 500 block of Independence Avenue.

Demis Ulises Mokay-Fong, 31, and Irvin Gutierrez, 26, both of Orlando, were leaders of a drug trafficking organization connected to the Sinaloa Cartel, police said.

Both are awaiting sentencing on drug trafficking charges in Florida.

Upper Allen police allege that when Mokay-Fong and Gutierrez were in the area last year, they and several other men pulled a gun on a security guard and held him hostage while another member of the group arrived with a truck tractor and stole a trailer from the facility.

The guard was held hostage until the trailer was returned the following morning by the suspects.

The suspects also obtained personal information from the guard and instructed him not to report the crimes, police said.

Police said they began a joint investigation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency after they learned the DEA's Orlando office had a related investigation and the robbery was likely connected to drug cartel activity.

Before the DEA infiltrated the group and arrested nine of its leaders, police said the drug ring imported cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine from Mexico into the greater Orlando, Florida area as well as several destination cities throughout the United States, to include Pennsylvania.
