A road project that includes a new roundabout at Sterretts Gap will result in a road closure beginning Monday, May 5.
A section of Sunnyside Drive at Route 34 will close for up to 101 days while construction crews rebuild the roadway at the Cumberland and Perry county line, according to a PennDOT news release.
Those who travel Sunnyside Drive near Route 34 will be detoured to Route 944 and Route 34.
Spokesman Mike Crochunis said PennDOT believes a roundabout will help to efficiently move more vehicles through the intersection and reduce angle-type collisions, which account for the majority of crashes at the location.
The contractor, Hempt Bros. Inc. of Camp Hill, will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. at the Middlesex Township Building to introduce the project team and answer questions.
Work under the $2.1 million construction contract is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2015, but the new roundabout should be fully open to traffic by the end of the year, Crochunis said.
