Father, daughter charged with federal tax fraud

Posted: Updated:
The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has charged a father and daughter for failing to pay or account for approximately $200,000 withheld from wages of employees.

Paul Biko, 61, was the Chief Officer of Clearview of Harrisburg, Clearview Landscaping and Clearview Builders. His daughter, Maura Whetsel, 31, was the firms' Director of Finance and bookkeeper.

They are both accused of conspiring to impede and obstruct the IRS in the assessment, computation and collection of federal employment taxes starting in or around April of 2006 through in or about January 2010.

According to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith, the pair allegedly withheld employment taxes from employees and then converted the funds for other business and personal use.

Biko and Whetsel were charged earlier this month but the indictments were sealed until the two were brought into custody today.

They were both released under pretrial supervision.
