Work that will restrict Route 322 to a single lane on the bridge over Route 117 in Cornwall has been delayed until Monday, May 8.
PennDOT spokesman Greg Penny said the work did not begin as scheduled April 28 because a concrete barrier delivered for traffic control was found to be unacceptable.
One lane in each direction will be open over the bridge when the work begins Monday at 8 a.m.
Crews will replace the bridge deck. Half of the deck will be demolished and rebuilt while the other half carries traffic. When the first half of the bridge is completed, traffic will be shifted onto that section and the second half will be demolished and rebuilt.
Work will also begin this spring on a Route 322 bridge over an abandoned railroad bed on the east side of the borough.
That bridge will be restricted to a single lane once the work begins, and will have a traffic signal controlling the flow of traffic.
The deck work on both bridges should be finished by the end of this year, Penny said.
Both bridges were built in 1963 and are classified as structurally deficient.
