Jamerson YMCA Holds Healthy Kids Day

Posted:
Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg's Jamerson YMCA held its annual Healthy Kids Day Saturday. It was part of national Healthy Kids Day events that are held at YMCA's all across the country.

There were tons of activities for kids to keep busy with. The YMCA also offered previews of their many classes and programs.

Organizers say it was a time to promote the importance of summer education, and to encourage kids to stay active and make healthy life-style choices.

"Our heart-beat is to keep kids active in mind and body. We are seeing childhood obesity rise across the country and just as of late Lynchburg has been named one of the healthiest cities, one of the happiest cities in America and we want to be sure we are doing our part to reach out to the community to keep that," said Program Director Cindy Capps.

The YMCA says their goal was to see two-hundred children come to Healthy Kids Day, and they believe they met that goal. The event was sponsored by Centra Health.
