LEWISBERRY, Pa. (WHTM) -
During a meeting Monday night, Fairview Township Supervisors were given an update on a natural gas pipeline project.
Sunoco Logistics’ Mariner East Pipeline Project is already underway in the western part of the state. Sunoco plans on adding to and mostly using an existing line to transport Marcellus Shale natural gas liquids like propane and ethane from the west to the Delaware River. Doing so would require building additional pumping and valve controls stations.
Last month, a York County judge ruled the company is not a public utility and therefore does not have eminent domain powers, according to published reports. Property owners challenged the company on its powers.
Now, in an apparent effort to sidestep local municipality’s zoning laws, Sunoco has asked the state Public Utilities Commission to declare it a utility. It argues that it is part of the state’s essential energy infrastructure, according to reports.
