Revenge porn bill passes Pa. committee

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A state House committee has approved legislation that would make it a crime to distribute nude or sexually explicit photographs to harass or humiliate a former partner.

House Bill 2107, passed by the House Judiciary Committee, would make so-called "revenge porn" a third-degree misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and up to six months in prison.

The bill not only allows for criminal prosecution, but for civil lawsuits against jilted lovers who share intimate photos or videos, and prosecution would be allowed if the person who sends the images is from another state and the victim is from Pennsylvania.

The bill now moves to the full House for a vote.
