Lancaster ranked 4th most exciting small city in US

The Red Rose City is in full bloom after receiving a special honor.

Business Insider ranked Lancaster the 4th most exciting small city in the U.S. They used criteria like restaurants and night life to make the decision.

Within 20 square blocks Lancaster boasts 288 experiences of all kinds. There are nearly 100 places to eat in the city. If you like to cook, you can pick up some fresh, local produce at the historic Central Market.

There is much more to Lancaster than food, like the 31 attractions.In the spring and summer, thousands of Midstaters cheer on the Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

All year long, events are held at the convention center. As for the arts, they take center stage.

"I don't so much anymore, but I like to go to plays and shows and different things they have here," said Carla McCoy of Lancaster.

People also flock to the 200-plus shops and galleries.

"We always try to attend first Friday. It's awesome. Every place in Lancaster is open late. You can go down Prince Street, Gallery Row. There's a bunch of activities," said Brenna Benner of Lancaster.

Despite everything to see and do, people said there is something else that makes excitement blossom in the Red Rose City.

"I just like Lancaster because it's a close-knit community. We've become good friends with a lot of our neighbors. Everyone helps each other out," said Benner. "We just love living here and don't want to go anywhere else any time soon."

The top three most exciting cities are Hoboken, New Jersey, La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
