2 fatally injured in crash on I-81

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

Two people died at a hospital after single-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 81 near Carlisle.

State police said a 68-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, both from Halifax, were pronounced dead after they were flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Their names were not immediately released.

Police said the two were in a vehicle that for unknown reasons left the northbound lanes at mile marker 51.5 in Middlesex Township before striking a tree and a parked vehicle in a parking lot.

The crash at 2 p.m. closed the northbound lanes for about 45 minutes.

Police said both victims were wearing seat belts.
