BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Jefferson County has reached contract agreements in principle with four local healthcare companies to provide services to Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, CEO Tony Petelos announced Friday.

According to a release, the county has reached contracts with Baptist Health System, UAB Hospital, UAB Medical West and St. Vincent's Health System, all of which will be providing inpatient and primary care services as well as specialty services to Cooper Green Mercy patients. County leaders and the aforementioned healthcare providers have been negotiating the deals for "some time," the release said.

“These contracts are vital both to providing quality patient care to our beneficiaries and to moving closer towards the Commission’s vision of establishing a network of community clinics,” Petelos said. “These facilities are strategically located throughout the County and once these agreements are approved by the Commission, we can start working with these partners to build a network around them focusing on primary care, preventative care and growing a healthy Jefferson County.”

The agreed upon contracts will now enter the county's internal contract review process before being presented to commissioners for approval.

“Having these contracts in place will further enhance the quality of care we are able to provide to our patients while maximizing the value to the
County financially," Petelos said. "I’m looking forward to getting these agreements through our review process
and presented to the Commission for approval as soon as possible.”
