Report sheds light on bad dog breeders

Posted: Updated:
LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) - A new report from the humane society says the midstate is home to four of the worst dog breeders in the nation.

They are the Deep Run Kennel in Lebanon, Ronks Kennel in Lancaster, JR's Kennel in Quarryville, and Run Way Kennel in Gordonville.

Each has received dozens of citations over the years, yet they're still operating. "On average we receive 3-4 puppy mill dogs a week," said Susan Martin from the Lancaster SPCA, "sometimes we receive litters, I'd say at the most 3-4 times a week."

Martin says the signs of a puppy mill are paws stained brown from living in their own waste, fur matted from neglect, and teeth rotting from not being fed a proper diet.
