A Carlisle woman has signed a plea agreement in which she admits to the theft of more than $500,000 in Social Security benefits paid to her mother over the last 30 years, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
Susan Stock, 71, agreed to plead guilty to the theft of government funds, U.S. Attorney Peter Smith said.
Smith said Stock's mother died in 1983, but Stock never notified Social Security of the death and continued to receive and spend her mother's benefits.
Authorities discovered the theft last year while trying to arrange an interview with Stock's mother.
Stock faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, and has agreed to pay $523,638 in restitution to the Social Security Administration, Smith said.
