Buzz: May 10-12 Rose Festival, Strawberry and Wine Festival, Mother's Day At Poplar Forest

This Saturday you can head to Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg for the 19th Annual Antique Rose Festival. It is from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will some 200 varieties of old garden roses. Some will be available for purchase -and you can take a free walking tour to see the roses. All proceeds benefit the continued preservation and interpretation of Old City Cemetery. The Merchants Association of Gretna will sponsor the 2014 Strawberry and Wine Festival Saturday. It starts at 11 am and goes until six at J.T.'s at the Lavalette House.The festival will feature wine tasting from seven local wineries along with fresh strawberries, strawberry shortcake, and homemade ice cream. Tickets, which include a free souvenir wine glass, are $13 in advance or $18 at the gate. You can learn more here. 

You can take your mom to Poplar Forest for Mother's Day on Sunday. Admission is free for mothers! You can spend the day exploring Thomas Jefferson's plantation house and check out an exhibit of artifacts found during the ongoing archaeological exploration of the grounds.
