WWII Vet Awarded Legion Of Honor

Posted:
Washington D.C. - Wednesday marked the 69th anniversary since allied troops declared victory in Europe during World War II.

The date makes it even more appropriate that one of our Heroes from the Heart of Virginia was recognized on this day for his contributions in that war.

Howard Patillo, of Roanoke, was presented with the Legion of Honor Thursday afternoon in Washington D.C.

The consul general of France presented Patillo with the award.

The Legion of Honor is France's highest distinction that is awarded, in part, to qualified allied troops that took part in the liberation of France during World War II.
