Police want help identifying man who went on short crime spree

BIRMINGHAM - AL - Someone went on a short crime spree early Thursday morning in Roebuck. Birmingham police believe they have surveillance footage of the suspect.

Around 1:45am, a man was asleep in his car at America's Best Inn when a man knocked on his window asking for a ride. Despite car problems, the man took the suspect to a home in the 200 block of Rose Drive. The suspect knocked on the door to no avail before returning to ask the driver for another ride. The driver said, “No,” but wanted to return him to the America's Best Inn. That’s when the suspect pulled a gun and told the victim to get out of the car. The suspect got into the car and left, leaving the victim unharmed.

Around 4:25am, the suspect appeared at Kangaroo Express along Parkway East where he asked the store manager to borrow jumper cables. The store was closed, but the manager gave the suspect a short ride down Parkway East to another vehicle. When the manager opened his hood and turned around, he faced a gun with the suspect demanding money and his cell phone. The suspect left with the victim’s money, cell phone, and his silver 2009 Pontiac G6 sedan with tinted windows.

There were no injuries in either incident.

The suspect is a black man, 6’, 180 lbs and appears to be in his 20’s. He wore a shirt with camouflage sleeves and camouflage pants with white sneakers during the crimes.

Call Birmingham Police Department at 254-1753 or 911 if you have information.
