HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
A standoff involving a man with a small child ended peacefully Sunday night in Harrisburg. Police pulled a man from 325 Seneca Street and loaded him into an ambulance.
That man, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted knife wounds to his neck and arms, according to police.
Neighbors recalled hearing screaming coming from the home moments before police showed up.
"It's scary to think that something like this is going on so close to home," neighbor Manetta Harris said.
Police said the suspect took his own baby daughter hostage and barricaded himself inside of a bedroom on the second floor of his home.
"Finally we were able to convince him to put the knife under the door and once he did that, we convinced him to open the door. Once he opened the door, we made entry and he was laying on the floor -- he was bleeding very very badly," Harrisburg Police Lt. Luis Rodriguez said.
The suspect's injuries are considered to be life-threatening, according to Rodriguez.
The Dauphin County Crisis Response Team assisted police in this incident.
