Answers, attacks absorb Democrats' final debate

Posted: Updated:

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The final debate among four Democrats seeking the party's nomination to take on Republican Gov. Tom Corbett in the fall veered between responses to policy questions, and efforts to bend answers into attacks on the front-running first-time candidate Tom Wolf.

Monday night's hour-long debate at Drexel University was the candidates' last, coming eight days before Pennsylvania's May 20 primary election. It was in front of their biggest TV audience yet: Drexel says 22 radio and TV stations were carrying the debate live.

As he has in every debate in the past month, businessman Wolf fended off attacks by state Treasurer Rob McCord and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz started. Former environmental protection secretary Katie McGinty concentrated her attacks on Corbett.

Corbett has no primary challenger, but his popularity in polls is stubbornly low.
