Ribbon cut on new West Shore Hospital

Posted: Updated:

PinnacleHealth's West Shore Hospital is set to open its doors Monday, but officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday.

The five-story community hospital, the first new hospital in central Pennsylvania in decades, will focus on general surgery, orthopedics and open heart surgery.

It will have 108 private rooms, seven operating rooms and a 12-bed intensive care unit.

"If it's a half an hour to the E.R. on the East Shore and you live here. Now, it's five minutes," said Mark Barabas, the hospital's chief operating officer. "If you live an hour away from Harrisburg, it's now half an hour to the E.R."

Lt. Governor James Cawley and Health Secretary Michael Wolf were featured guests for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

West Shore Hospital is expected to create 500 new health care jobs by 2017.

It is located at 1995 Technology Parkway in Hampden Township, next to the Fredricksen Outpatient Center.
