Weekly Buzz: May 16-18 Lemonade Stand, Free Book Fair, Car Wash, Indian Powwow

Here’s the Weekly Buzz:

Come out Friday to help a Lynchburg family who's really been through a lot. 4-year-old Edie Gilger was born with cancer because of a gene passed down from her mother Emily. While 4-year-old-Edie's cancer is in remission, her mother was diagnosed with the same cancer just two weeks ago. She was 30 weeks pregnant at the time. The baby was delivered for fear the cancer would spread and is now in the NICU and Emily is starting her treatment. So stop by the lemonade stand at St. John's Day School on Elmwood Avenue from 12 until 1 to help raise money for the family.

Saturday in Campbell County, the Department of Social Services will host their sixth annual Free Children's Book Fair. It runs from 9 until 1 at the Social Services building.

The goal is to promote children's literacy by offering free books to kids.

Miss Wheelchair Virginia will hold a car-wash on Saturday from 9 until 2 at Heritage Elementary School in Lynchburg. All proceeds will go to help with travel costs for the Miss Wheelchair America Competition in August.

And the 20th Annual Powwow in Elon is this weekend. It's sponsored by the Monacan Indian Nation. There will be Native American crafts, artists, music, and dancers.

Have a great weekend!
