Danville Residents Back In Their Homes After Having to Evacuate

Danville, VA - Danville residents are now safely back in their homes after they had to evacuate Thursday night.

The Fire Department was dispatched to a mobile home park on Parker Road just before 10 pm. That's where they say they had to move several people because of the threat of rising waters from a nearby creek.

James Kissee has lived in his home for 30 years and he says he's had to evacuate because of the threat of high waters a handful of times. But he says each time is just as difficult.

Kissee was just one of several residents that had to leave. Thursday night, the Fire Department went door to door to check on people. He said last night he was sleeping during the storm and when he woke up, he could see the water sneaking up around his home. Kissee says he wasn't scared but hopeful that it wouldn't be as bad as it has in the past.

"I didn't know how far it was going to get up. The last time it got up halfway to my underpinning, it tore half of that down, so I moved both my cars up the road there," said Kissee.

The Red Cross assisted three people. Seven others stayed with friends or family.
