Police: Man nearly robbed after accepting ride

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

A man told police he was picked up while walking in York County and then jumped from the SUV when the ride turned into a robbery attempt.

The victim, a 48-year-old Dover Township man, said he was walking northbound on Roosevelt Avenue near Church Road in Manchester Township Sunday night when the SUV, a dark colored Jeep Cherokee, pulled up next to him, according to Northern York County Regional police.

He told police he accepted the offer of a ride and got into the rear passenger seat before a man next to him pulled a handgun and demanded money.

He said he jumped from the vehicle and ran into a nearby field.

He was not injured, police said.
