HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
State Rep. Patty Kim overcame challenger and former Kim campaigner Gina Johnson-Roberson to retain her seat in the 103rd District for the State House.
“This victory is so sweet” yelled Kim during her victory speech.
A small crowd gathered at Café 1500 in Midtown to applaud Kim’s primary win Tuesday night. Unofficially, Kim received nearly 77 percent of the vote.
With 39 of 39 precincts reporting, Kim earned 3,517 votes to Roberson’s 1,067. The breakdown of the precincts showed Kim earned more votes in each respective precinct in the City of Harrisburg and throughout Dauphin County.
Two years ago, Gina Johnson-Roberson celebrated Kim's primary victory inside the Kim household.
Roberson has been hospitalized since Friday. She is being treated for a stress-related illness. Roberson said she was saddened that she was unable to vote and greet her supporters at the polls on Tuesday. During her victory speech, Kim asked supporters to pray for her friend’s recovery.
Unless there is an overwhelming write-in bid campaign, Kim will retain her seat in the State House come the general election.
"It just feels good to keep doing what I've been doing,” Kim said.” The people here wanted to see increased minimum wage, more support for the working poor. That's my district, and I care deeply about them. And, I want to keep pushing it for the next two years.”
