BESSEMER - AL - Bessemer police have charged 52-year-old George David Salum with kidnapping, enticing of a child to enter a vehicle for immoral purposes, attempting to elude the police and resisting arrest.

Investigators say on Wednesday, May 21, officers were called to 528 4th Avenue North around 7:30 a.m. on the enticing of a child complaint. The parent of a 13-year-old girl wanted to report that while her child was waiting for the school bus she was approached by a suspect in the parking lot of 4th Avenue Supermarket. The suspect identified as a white man, 50-55 years of age, gray hair and driving a silver compact vehicle, drove up and asked about a girl named "Tori." When the 13 year old told him she did not know anyone by that name, the suspect offered her $20 to get in the car with him. She told him no and ran away. The suspect then took off.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of  the suspect. They tried to pulled it over on 24th Street North. The suspect refused to stop and was pursued by multiple units down Bessemer Super Highway onto Highway 150 into the city of Hoover. During the pursuit, officers observed a white female in the front seat apparently putting up a struggle.  Nearly a mile into the city of Hoover, officers got the suspect to stop and he was taken into custody. The female was not hurt and during questioning, she told investigators she was walking from a friend's house when the suspect pulled up, exited the car, grabbed her and forced her into the car. Once he drove off, he started asking for sexual favors. Soon afterwards, authorities got behind them. Salum is being transferred to the Jefferson County Jail.
