Police in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County are asking residents to take precautions after reports of black bear sightings.
There have been several reports within the last few days of a black bear in the area of Wertzville and Millers Gap roads, police said.
In an effort to get the bear to leave the area, police are asking that residents in the area make sure their trash is secured, and if possible to wait until the trash collector comes before putting it out.
Residents should also remove bird feeders from their yards for the next few days as bears will tear them down to eat the birdseed, police said.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is aware of the situation, police said.
