East Pennsboro teens charged for gun 'joke'

Posted: Updated:
ENOLA, Pa. (WHTM) -

Two Cumberland County teenagers are facing criminal charges after police say they used text messages to threaten other youths.

East Pennsboro Township police said the messages sent Saturday and Sunday by the 13- and 15-year-old boys contained a photograph of what appeared to be a firearm.

Children who felt threatened by the photo told their parents, who reported the incidents to authorities.

Police said they spoke to the boys and were told the messages were a joke, and the photo was of an Airsoft gun that looked like a real firearm.

Officials said the parents of the children did not consider the behavior to be a joke and neither did police, who charged the boys with terroristic threats.
