Alabama OF Ben Moore drafted by Boston Red Sox

Posted: Updated:
TUSCALOOSA - AL - Ben Moore grew up an Alabama fan which led him to choose the Tide when it was time to pick a college.

Now that he's ready for a career, Moore's favorite baseball team chose him.

The Alabama outfielder was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the eighth round, pick No. 254 of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Moore will leave school a year early to play professional baseball.

"I just felt like it's the right thing to do if the right opportunity came," Moore told ABC 3340. "It presented itself and I feel at piece with it. I'm ready to go play and I'm just so happy the Red Sox believed in me and took a chance on me."

Moore hit .305 and led Alabama with nine homeruns and 115 total bases in 2014.

He signed with the Tide after starring in football and baseball for Cullman High School. Moore was an all-state selection in both sports and was named the ABC 3340 "Blitz Player of the Year" at the end of his senior football season in 2010.

Moore is the second Alabama player to be selected in this year's baseball draft. Pitcher Spencer Turnbull was a second round pick of the Detroit Tigers.
