New Southern Virginia Wild Blueway Water Trail Promotes Outdoor Recreation In The Region

Posted:
Danville, VA - A new regional partnership with tourism, park and recreational organizations on the Southside is making it easier for folks to enjoy all the water activities the area has to offer.

The Southern Virginia Wild Blueway Water Trail is made up of the Dan, Staunton, and Bannister Rivers in addition toBuggs Island Lake and Lake Gaston.

Together, the water ways provide hundreds of miles of recreational opportunities. Several agencies have worked together to promote the water trail concept.

Maps and brochures have been printed along with a website called SOVA Wild Blue Way. The website is now the central place to plan a trip to any of the lakes or rivers.

There are details about canoe and kayak rentals, water access points, fishing, lodging and dining options. It's a way to get people to enjoy all the water trail has to offer.

"We have great experiences here. We have the rivers, we have the lakes. It's all of us coming together to really market that and promote that has really been a good thing, because now folks that want to come to this area can go to one central place and find out information on the area as a whole," said Staunton River State Park Manager Adam Layman.

The official launch celebration of the Water Trail is at 10 a.m. next Monday at Staunton River State Park. There will be a kayak launch and boat tours at the end of the ceremony.
