A Derry Township man was arrested after a police incident that closed a section of Route 743 Monday morning.
Dominic T. Mariani, 48, was charged with reckless endangerment and jailed in Dauphin County Prison on $10,000 bail, according to Derry Township police and court records.
Police said they responded to the intersection of Gates Road and Route 743 after they received a report that a man was shooting a handgun around 3:15 a.m.
Mariani was shooting toward Old Hershey Road when the officers arrived, but he went into his home and did not come out. The Dauphin County Crisis Response Team was called to the scene when officers could not contact him, police said.
He eventually surrendered without incident.
Police said alcohol played a contributing role in the incident, but Mariani’s motive for shooting a firearm in the early morning hours outside his home was not immediately determined.
At no time were shots fired at police officers, and there were no reported injuries.
Police said they searched Mariani's home and found 32 firearms, including pistols and semi-automatic rifles.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges may follow, police said.
Route 743 was closed in both directions between Ridge Road and Homestead Road before reopening around 10 a.m.
