Stolen tractor-trailer had $300K in Apple products

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A tractor-trailer loaded with $300,000 worth of iPhones, iPads and other Apple products was stolen from a travel center along Interstate 81 after the driver reportedly stopped for a quick restroom break, according to state police in Harrisburg.

The driver told troopers he was hauling the load of Apple products from New Jersey to Ingram Micro in West Hanover Township when he stopped at the Travel Center of America in the 7800 block of Linglestown Road on May 20, police said in a news release Thursday.

The driver said he parked very close to the McDonalds, went inside for approximately seven or eight minutes, and came back outside to find the tractor and trailer were gone, along with his entire load.

"Unfortunately, high value cargo thefts like this are lot more common then people realize," Trooper Adam Reed said. "Often times, the groups that commit these acts are fairly well organized and they have destination in mind for this cargo already, and often times we find the truck minus the cargo."

Investigators have no suspects or leads in the case.

They said the 2011 International truck tractor, which had a New Jersey license plate of AP671N, was valued at $50,000 and the 2014 Stough trailer, with an Oklahoma registration of 5138GP, was worth another $10,000.
