The state House of Representatives has approved legislation that would allow Pennsylvania's volunteer fire companies to obtain a club liquor license outside of county quotas.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is not permitted to issue club licenses once the county quota of liquor licenses is met, but House Bill 623 would make an exception for volunteer fire companies.
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks), said many volunteer fire companies are unable to obtain a club license because of the quota system. He said eliminating the quota for fire companies would increases their ability to generate revenue.
The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
