WASHINGTON, June 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a 10-term Philadelphia Congressman and Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science, made the following statement congratulating Philadelphia participants at today's White House Maker Faire, including students from Philadelphia's Workshop School and Erik Spiller, a graduate of the World Communications Charter School. Fattah has been a leading Congressional champion for increasing funding for STEM and manufacturing:

"I could not be more proud of the Philadelphia students represented at today's inaugural White House Maker Faire. These young Makers are the embodiment of what can happen when inspiration and innovation are valued in the classroom, and students are pushed to tackle meaningful challenges.  For the last decade, the Workshop School has been a model of creative-driven curriculum, and their continued success inspiring tomorrow's designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs is evident in their White House exhibit.

"Today's White House showcase is further proof that continued investments in STEM education and manufacturing are inspiring a new movement of American Makers. This renaissance in manufacturing innovation is critical to our country's job creation and economic growth. I look forward to continuing my work with President Obama and the Administration to ensure these emerging talents have the education, tools, training and opportunities to thrive as the next generation of Makers."
