Pa. committee votes to expand open-records law

Posted: Updated:

Legislation that would hold Penn State and other state-related universities more accountable for the state money they receive has passed a Senate committee.

Senate Bill 444, voted out of the State Government Committee, would expand how Pennsylvania’s Open Records Law applies to Penn State, Pitt, Temple and Lincoln.

The legislation would require the universities to create searchable databases on their public websites that include budgets, revenue and expenditures, and non-personal employee and student data.

Universities with more than 2,500 employees would be required to report the top 200 employee salaries.
