Lebanon landlord charged with housing assistance fraud

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The U.S. Attorney's Office has filed criminal charges against a Lebanon landlord who's accused of defrauding the Lebanon County Housing Authority out of more than $23,000 in federal housing assistance.

Israel Acevedo, 52, concealed from the housing authority that he lived with his wife and children in a house he owned, which allowed him to receive rental subsidies that were provided to his wife to pay rent, according to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith.

Acevedo received $23,362 in federal funds that he was not entitled to, Smith said.

Prosecutors also filed a plea agreement in which Acevedo agreed to plead guilty.

He faces a maximum term of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. He has already made restitution, Smith said.
