I-83 North exit for Third Street in Lemoyne to close next week

Posted: Updated:
LEMOYNE, Pa. (WHTM) -

Interstate 83 northbound drivers headed to Lemoyne will have to use the new ramp to Lowther Street beginning Tuesday evening when the existing exit for Third Street is scheduled to permanently close.

To get to Third Street, drivers must take the Exit 41-B ramp and turn left at the new traffic signal, then take a left at the next traffic signal, according to a PennDOT news release.

Exit 41-B is before the Route 581 interchange, and about a half-mile before the old Third Street ramp at Exit 42.

Construction crews will also open a dedicated left-turn lane on the ramp to Lowther Street and activate a new traffic signal at the end of the ramp at the intersection with Lowther and Maple streets, according to a PennDOT news release.

Once Exit 42 is closed, traffic on Route 581 eastbound will no longer have access to the ramp from I-83 North. Those headed to Lemoyne from Route 581 East will have to use Exit 6-C to Lowther Street, make a right turn onto Lowther, then a left onto Third.

The new traffic movements are permanent and are part of a $22.1 million project to improve the I-83/Route 581 interchange and adjacent ramps.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2015.
