Tuscaloosa native charged in son's death getting support from other parents

Posted: Updated:
Support is growing for a Tuscaloosa native charged with murder for leaving his child in a car. An online petition continues to collect thousands of signatures, and thousands of dollars have also been raised for the family of Justin Ross Harris.

Harris is charged with murder and cruelty to children after his son was found dead inside his hot car in the Atlanta area. Harris has said he forgot to drive his 22 month old son to daycare Wednesday and didn't realize he was in the car until after he left work.

There's a petition asking the Cobb County district attorney to drop charges against Harris. Nearly nine thousand people have signed the petition on change.org. Many parents have left comments recalling similar situations in which they too almost left a child in the car.

A fund has also been set up for Harris and his wife, Leanna, on youcaring.com. So far, more than 17 thousand dollars has been raised. That amount has already surpassed two previously set goals for the fund.

Harris currently lives in the Atlanta area but is from Tuscaloosa. He's currently in jail awaiting trial.
