WASHINGTON, June 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Virgin Islands Institute of Development (VIID) today officially launched an important new policy development project aimed at developing a 50-Year Strategic Economic Development Plan ("Roadmap") for improving the long-term competitive advantages of the U. S. Virgin Islands.

A primary impetus of the Roadmap involves not only conducting an overall assessment of the economic conditions of the U. S. Virgin Islands, but also providing specific, actionable economic recovery strategies to position the Territory as an economic hub to the world.

VIID has identified strategic Roadmap partners who are recognized industry leaders in specific areas, such as tax asset management, manufacturing and technology development, that will build strategic alliances between the U. S. Virgin Islands and key U. S. states, global Fortune 100 corporations and financial services institutions.

Over the long term, today's project launch is designed to lay out the components of the Roadmap, evaluate in real-time the necessary local revenue, increase the capacity of business profit streams, and create economic growth in the Territory and its participating stakeholders.

The Virgin Islands Institute of Development is a 501(c)(3) non-partisan, non-profit organization that focuses on substantive policies, issues and trends concerning the U. S. Virgin Islands. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., it is the only think tank dedicated to USVI issues and the creation of innovative, viable policy solution proposals affecting the long-term competitive advantages of the U. S. Virgin Islands. For more information, email viid@viid.org or call (202) 765-5511.
