Natural Bridge Wax Museum Closing At End Of Summer

Posted:
Natural Bridge, VA - After 37 years, and hundreds of thousands of visitors, the Wax Museum at Natural Bridge is going out with a mighty roar. The final day for the museum is September 8th.

After the sale of Natural Bridge to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the state park system didn't want the buildings associated with the property, spelling the end for the attraction that first greets tourists as they visit the park. More than 170 exhibits are on display, themed around historical events relating to Virginia, the South, Religion, and America.

Tourist Lynne Cahill from New Jersey looks forward to visiting the museum every year, having made her first trip nearly 21 years ago. She praised the exhibits saying they look "...almost alive, or like at Disney."

Some of the more popular exhibits tell the story of the Civil War. Soldiers rallying Confederate troops sit next to lifelike depictions of Lee and Grant at the Appomattox surrender.

Museum owners are now trying to find a home for the exhibits, sculptures, and props. This includes the wax sculptures of presidents that line the hallway. Museum staff say some exhibits are already under contract, but declined to specify where the new location will be.

While the museum is hopeful it can keep most of the exhibits together, Lynne Cahill says it'll never be quite the same, saying "Crazy that they're going to close it. I mean, people are gonna miss out."
