HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Legislation to name a Cumberland County roadway in honor of a Newville soldier who was killed in the line of duty while serving in Iraq is awaiting the signature of Governor Tom Corbett.

The measure would designate Route 233 from Newville to the Perry County line as the Army Sgt. Timothy L. Hayslett Memorial Highway.

Hayslett was 26 years old when he died in November 2003 from an improvised explosive device that struck his Humvee while on patrol in Baghdad.

The legislation was authored by state Rep. Stephen Bloom.

"Sergeant Hayslett is a true hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country," Bloom said in a statement. :His commitment, courage and sacrifice in defending our country should never be forgotten, and this roadway designation is one way to ensure that his legacy lives on for future generations."
