Recycle or Trade in an Eligible Device and Purchase an ASUS PadFone XTM, and $5 Will Be Donated To Seattle Schools

SEATTLE, June 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Customers who recycle or trade in their eligible device and purchase an ASUS PadFone XTM from AT&T will also provide support to Seattle students.  Running now through Sept. 11, customers in Seattle who recycle or trade in their eligible devices and purchase an ASUS PadFone XTM will not only experience this innovative device, but will also will generate an AT&T-funded $5 donation (up to $25,000 total), to DonorsChoose, a charity that supports projects initiated by public school teachers for classrooms in need.

"Education and technology go hand-in-hand, as many teachers use technology to provide outstanding opportunities for learning in the classroom," said Bob Bass, President, AT&T Washington. "We invite the people of Seattle to clean out their drawers and bring in their eligible old cell phones, purchase the ASUS PadFone X™ and support local education projects at the same time."

"The opportunity to support local teachers has inspired donors, corporations and foundations to contribute $240 million to public schools across the country," said Jason Yun, Partnership Manager at DonorsChoose in San Francisco, CA. "Our collaboration with AT&T in Seattle will give AT&T customers another easy way to support teachers' projects and students."

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 89 percent of mobile devices are not recycled at end-of-life. This program aims to decrease that number, while also supporting local teachers and students. In 2013, AT&T collected approximately 4.5 million cell phones for reuse and recycling, in addition to the recycling of 487,000 pounds of cell phone batteries and accessories.  Since its inception, DonorsChoose has raised more than $240 million and helped nearly 11.5 million students with more than 460,000 projects funded.

The ASUS PadFone X™ combines both the smartphone and ASUS PadFone Station™ into an innovative device with seamless transitions that lets you choose between two screen sizes to fit the task at hand. The ASUS PadFone X™ received a three star rating on AT&T's Eco-Rating System. AT&T provides an eco-rating for all AT&T branded handset devices so customers can make informed choices about their products.
