Bedford Co., VA - Charges are moving forward against the man charged with DUI in a fatal accident on Route 501 last year.

Steve Oulds III is charged in the death of James Dale Gunter, who died in the crash last August. Gunter's body had to be exhumed as part of the investigation months later.

Monday a Bedford County General District Court judge certified the charge. The case will next go before a grand jury, as early as August.

The Commonwealth called ten witnesses against Oulds Monday, including lab workers, state troopers and the man who recorded phone conversations in jail. In one of those conversations, testimony showed Oulds told his aunt “I killed Dale.”

The defense seemed to lay the groundwork for its case, arguing that Oulds was not driving that day, but that Gunter was.
