Construction work scheduled tonight will temporarily close two ramps from Route 283 to Interstate 283 near Harrisburg.
The ramps in Swatara Township will be closed one at a time, weather permitting. so that construction crews can pave a leveling course of asphalt, according to a PennDOT news release.
The ramp from eastbound Route 283 to northbound I-283 will be closed for paving at 9 p.m.
Drivers will be detoured further east on Route 283 to the North Union Road interchange and then back on westbound Route 283 to the exit ramp for northbound I-283.
The ramp will reopen once the asphalt has cooled.
Crews will then close the ramp from westbound Route 283 to northbound I-283.
Drivers will be detoured further west a short distance on Route 283 to the ramp for the Pennsylvania Turnpike, then onto southbound I-283 to the ramp for eastbound Route 283, and then onto eastbound Route 283 to the ramp for northbound I-283.
All traffic restrictions should be removed by 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to PennDOT.
The work is part of a $5.6 million project to repair and resurface I-283 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Eisenhower Interchange.
The entire project is scheduled to be finished by mid-May of 2015.
