Area Guide to 4th of July Celebrations

BEDFORD:

A gathering of Taps Buglers from the organization Bugles Across America will be meeting at the D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA on the morning of July 4, 2014 to play a coordinated/group Taps around the Memorial grounds. This is in honor of the 70th Anniversary of D-Day and for the men who died on 6 June 1944. Group Taps will be played at 11am.

CONCORD:

The Concord Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a parade on Friday, July 4, starting at 10:00am from the Concord Elementary School and end at the Concord Volunteer Fire Department Station.

BBQ and Hotdogs will be available for purchase at the fire station after the parade.

There will be drawings for a 42? LG TV and a Fire Fighter Edition Henry Lever Action .22 Rifle.

Anyone interested in being in the parade please be at the Concord Elementary School by 9:00am to line up.

DANVILLE:

Fourth of July Celebration Event Schedule:           

8 a.m. - Centra Medical Group Patriot Challenge - Anglers Park

Featuring a 5K/10K and Fun Run, the trail race on Anglers Ridge Mountain Bike Trail is a great way to start off Independence Day. An ice cream social will follow the race. The event is sponsored by Centra, Danville Parks and Recreation and Danville Running and Fitness Club.

2 p.m. - Golden Leaf Bistro Pie Baking Contest - Pepsi Building

Nothing says the Fourth of July like a homemade pie.  You can turn your favorite pie into an award winner - whether it's an apple pie or chocolate cream.  Join us for the third annual Golden Leaf Bistro pie baking contest.  Grand prize winner will receive $500 cash!  Sponsored by Golden Leaf Bistro, Danville Parks and Recreation and Danville Register and Bee. 

Fourth of July                                                                                                            

6 p.m. - 10 p.m. - July Fourth Celebration - Carrington Pavilion

The annual celebration will kick off at 6 p.m. and will feature free entertainment and arts and crafts for the kids. Food concessions and amusement rides will be available. Admission is free. Sponsored by URW Community Federal Credit Union, J&J Equipment Rentals and Danville Parks and Recreation.

         6 p.m. - Gates Open

         6:45 p.m. - Captain Jim

         8 p.m. - Janice Price

         Dusk - Grand Firework Display (weather permitting)

LYNCHBURG:

Hillcats Baseball Fireworks.  Game begins at 7:05 pm and fireworks begin immediately after the game ends.  Gates open at 5:30 pm.

POPLAR FOREST:

11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy musical performances by John Emil and Mark Campbell, dancing, demonstrations by colonial artisans and craftsmen, pony rides, puppet shows, storytelling, colonial children's games and more! Watch Signora Bella, the Great Italian Equilibrist, perform amazing feats of balance in the tradition of the traveling performers of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. View a special exhibit and book signing by the Lynchburg students participating in the 2014 Shape Your World program, a joint project created by WordWorks! of Lynchburg and Poplar Forest to encourage civic literacy among kids. Graze on a variety of local fare and libations. Not to be missed…the 1:30 p.m. reading of the Declaration of Independence by Virginia State Senator Bill Stanley.

SAUNDERS:

Saunders  volunteer fire department 4th of July celebration.  Gates open at 3pm. Music starts at 5:30. Fireworks at  10pm - Parkway Marina Smith Mountain Lake.

VINTON:  6p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Vinton War Memorial Grounds

6 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.          Welcome and The Kings

7:15 p.m. - 7:40 p.m.     Patriotic Program featuring a Flag Program and Music

7:40 p.m.                      The Kings

8:15  p.m.                     Civil War Skirmish

9:30 p.m.                      Fireworks by Master Displays
