Planning your own fireworks display? Amp up your safety plan

Posted: Updated:
For many families, fireworks and the Fourth of July go hand-in-hand.

And although authorities want everyone to enjoy the celebrations, they are advising people to take safety precautions, especially if they're putting on their own displays.

The Alabama Fire Marshal's Office releases the following tips:

Keep water and first aid nearby.

Never use fireworks indoors.

Children should never play with fireworks without adult

supervision.

It is unlawful to throw fireworks from a moving vehicle

or to throw or point fireworks at another person, object

or animal

Never attempt to alter or combine fireworks.

Do not attempt to re-light “dud” or malfunctioning fireworks.

No lighted cigars, cigarettes, or pipes within 10 feet of where fireworks

are stored or sold.

No exploding or igniting of fireworks within

600 feet of any enclosed building.

No outdoor burning within 50 feet of where

fireworks are stored or sold.

Always be sure your fireworks are legal and

purchased from a reputable dealer who’s

inspected and permitted by your Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office.
