LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Lancaster man was arrested for a robbery at an East Hempfield Township store and for leading police on a chase into Dauphin County Thursday night.

Endalew Desta, 28, was allegedly shoplifting at Bruke International Grocery & Gifts, at 145 Rohrerstown Road, when he was confronted by an employee, township police said in a news release.

Desta pulled out a screwdriver and threatened the employee before fleeing in a vehicle, police said.

Police said Desta then led them on a pursuit on Route 283 from the Rheems exit to the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange in Swatara Township, Dauphin County.

East Hempfield police charged Desta with theft and robbery. His bail at Lancaster County Prison was set at $30,000 cash.

Northwest Regional police filed counts of fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest. Bail on those charges was set at $20,000 cash.
