Forest, VA - Thomas Jefferson spent lots of time in Lynchburg at his plantation home in Poplar Forest. At 33 years old he wrote the Declaration of Independence.
Friday many came out to celebrate Independence Day by visiting the historical landmark. There was plenty to do: tours, food, music, and games for the kids. Folks came from all over the country to celebrate.
Poplar Forest says they wanted the community to enjoy the history the six-hundred and 17 acres has to offer.
Senator Bill Stanley read the Declaration of Independence during the event. Poplar Forest says they expected close to two thousand people to come and go throughout Friday’s festivities.
